Planet Pitch Regional Competition Details & Application

Who is Eligible to Apply?

Planet Pitch is open current high school student under the guidance of a high school teacher or mentor.

What is Planet Pitch?

Planet Pitch is an exciting new international high school social entrepreneurship pitch competition. Students create a product or service that addresses the world's social challenges. Students learn innovation, entrepreneurship, and communications skills and develop ways to make the world a better place for all. Students can win prizes, including funding for their product, service, or college scholarships.

What is Social Entrepreneurship?

Social entrepreneurship is an approach by individuals, groups, start-up companies, or entrepreneurs, developing, funding, and implementing solutions to social, cultural, or environmental issues. 

When Does the Planet Pitch Regional Competition Take Place?

There are Two Phases to the Planet Pitch Regional Competition:


Phase 1) Planet Pitch Regional Applications - Students apply to compete in the Planet Pitch Finals no later than Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 5pm Central Time.  Late applications will not be accepted. Students will be notified if they reached the finals or not no later than Wednesday, March 29th, 2023 at 5pm Central Time.


Phase 2) Planet Pitch Regional Competition -  The regional competition will occur on Tuesday, April 11th from 12pm (noon) - 4pm Central Time. Lunch and networking will be served from noon-12:30pm. Attendees include finalists, teacher and up to 2 other guests.


Location: Whitewater Innovation Center, 1221 Innovation Drive, Whitewater, WI 53190.


The will be live-streamed so that friends, family, classmates, and anyone else can watch the competition. We will also record the competition and it will be viewable on the Planet Pitch YouTube Channel. 


The 1st place finisher in the Planet Pitch Regional will automatically qualify for the Planet Pitch Global Competition. 

Why Should Students Apply for Planet Pitch?

  1. High school student entrepreneurs build skills in creativity, innovation, communications, marketing, finance, the law and develop an entrepreneurial mindset.
  2. Students develop their own products and services to address project challenges that we provide to address one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. 
  3. All Planet Pitch students enhance the college and job applications. 
  4. Planet Pitch finalists win college scholarships or money to fund their products and services! 

Are there Separate Categories?

Yes, we want encourage all students to engage in social entrepreneurship. Therefore, there will be two separate categories:


1) Idea Stage - No current users nor customers. There will be 4 finalists in the Idea Stage category.


2) Growth Stage - Has current users and/or customers. There will be 4 finalists in the Growth Stage category.

Where is the Planet Pitch Regional Competition?

The Planet Pitch Regional Competition will be held at the UWM Innovation Accelerator located at:  1225 Discovery Pkwy, Wauwatosa, WI 53226. competition will be live-streamed so friends, family, teachers, and classmates can watch the competition too. 


Note: Students do NOT have to enter the Planet Pitch Regional Competition to apply for the Planet Pitch Global Competition.

Do I Compete by Myself or as a Team?

You can compete as an individual or a team of up to 3 people. You only have 6 minutes to pitch, so you will need to coordinate your pitch accordingly.

How Much Does it Cost to Enter?

Inclusivity is part of our mission. We are here to help build high school entrepreneurs and innovators regardless of school financial resources, family income, or geography. 


So, entering Planet Pitch is free. We also hold the competition virtually (online), so there are no costs for travel.

What Do I Include In My Application?

Your application is based on a 60-90 second video pitch that you will record and post on YouTube. The video cannot be private or password protected, or our judges will not be able to see the pitch and the application will be rejected. Instructions on creating your video pitch are in the section below. 


The application will include the teacher/mentor's name, contact information, high school name and high school website address, name of your product/service and link to your video pitch.

Video Instructions

Video Environment & Format

Create your video in a quiet setting with nothing distracting in the background. Have adequate lighting, and utilize a ring light if possible. We recommend using a desktop, laptop, or tablet computer to create your video. Smartphone videos sometimes don't appear professional.


Display slides with video of you/your team if applicable in foreground. We recommend you use a service like Loom. There is a free service available. 

Video Content (60-90 Seconds)

  1. What problem, issue or challenge are you addressing or trying to solve?
  2. What is the name of your project, product or service?
  3. Why is this project, product or service needed right now and for who (beneficiaries)?
  4. How does your project, product, or service work?
  5. How will you reach your market?
  6. How will you generate revenue?
  7. Do you need funding? If so, how much? How would you spend it?
  8. Your teacher's name, school name, school location (city/town, state) and student first names (only for privacy).
